Davenport Evans: Providing Legal Expertise
With nearly half a billion dollars in assets, dealings with numerous federal programs, bond issues, mortgages, contracts and obligations, SDHDA is one of the state's most complicated organizations. For decades, SDHDA has relied on the legal services of Davenport Evans Hurwitz & Smith.
Three of Davenport Evans' staff work directly with SDHDA. Attorney Jean Bender provides guidance on employee relations. Attorney Bob Hayes provides foreclosure law and litigation expertise. And for 18 years, Dixie Hieb (pictured) has served as SDHDA's general counsel. "I started working with South Dakota Housing when I came back to South Dakota in 1995," stated Hieb. "It's been a great relationship."
Hieb's primary focus at the law firm is on banking and financial services. Her work with SDHDA is more varied, which she finds rewarding and interesting. Hieb enjoys her work with SDHDA's staff and Board of Commissioners. "I always say they give government workers a good name. They're smart, they work hard and they are a pleasure to do business with. They always have such committed board members. That makes a big difference."
